The Guiding Principles of Set and Setting Design

an ongoing exploration

healing space

we design places that consider the emotional and psychological affect that a place has on a person. creating spaces that work in rhythm with the body and mind.

the process

we are amazed at how healing the process of designing and building with purpose can be. it is often just as beneficial to those creating the project as it is for those that inhabit it.

when we are aligned with purpose, our work moves through us originating from another source. we love exploring the nature of that source and letting it inspire.

source

oneness

we believe in our common humanity. we treat everyone we work with as if they were our family, because they are. same goes for plants and animals, btw.

Yugen: “an awareness of the universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and powerful for words.”

there is a mystery to this world that is often if not always impossible to describe.

mystery

holding environment

most of the spaces we inhabit every day were never designed for the activity that happens within them. and almost none have been designed to calm the emotions or contribute to the healing process.

intention

purpose

like the japanese concept of “ikigai”, we should all find the work that gives us a sense of purpose. everyone, at every step of a project, should have a chance to connect with their purpose for why they are there. this is how a project gets its beauty

design spaces that hold each individual in a way that creates a sense of safety and nurturing. it is only in this environment that a person can open up and grow.

biophilia

we are part of, made of, and one with the natural world. there is healing, inspiration, and magic to be found in exploring our connection with the plant and animal kingdom.

feminine/masculine

we need to seek balance between these two energies, witness their strengths, and heal their wounds. to do so, we need to empower the feminine, let her lead, and witness all that we have been missing.
